What Is the AS9100 Standard?

Spearheaded by the International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG), the AS9100 standard, also known as EN9100:2018, was created in partnership with aviation, defense, and space representatives to establish industry-specific quality management system requirements for companies that develop, produce, and distribute aerospace parts. 

Precision machine shops are technically not required to maintain AS9100 certification, many aerospace customers will only work with AS9100-certified suppliers. It’s hard to think of a sector where safety and precision are more vital than aerospace. As a result, many customers avoid sourcing products from suppliers who do not prioritize the standard.
