Our New Swiss Screw Machine: The Citizen L32-X-LFV
Island Machine invested in a Citizen L32X swiss screw machine to add value to our full-service precision machine shop. This equipment is an 8-axis model that includes two Y axes on the sub side.
The main spindle specifications of the Citizen L32X include:
Maximum turning diameter of 32mm (1.25”)
Maximum turning length of 320mm (12.59”)
Spindle speed: 8,000 RPM
Drive rating: 3.7/7.5 kW

Up to 44 tools can be mounted on the Citizen L32X. With this wide range of modular tooling, the Citizen L32X is versatile and flexible enough to meet our customers’ production demands.
The “Why” behind Our Purchase
Simply put, we invested in this swiss screw machine so we can delight our customers in a new way. The idea for the purchase originated after an aerospace customer needed bolts with tight tolerance requirements. We now have the ability to make those parts.
We purchased the Citizen L32X from Spinetti Machinery, a trusted company known for its customer service and ability to program complex machining tasks correctly. We knew we would get the support we needed for this new-to-us capability from Spinetti Machinery.

The L32X model is a large and robust machine capable of machining parts with diameters measuring up to 32mm, which enables us to manufacture a broad range of parts.
No precision grinding required
Swiss screw machines can generally only accommodate materials with consistent diameters because even the slightest variation can jam up the machine. To prevent this issue, shops typically send materials for centerless grinding before performing swiss screw machine services, which adds to a project’s cost and lead time.
With our new machine, we avoid this problem entirely. That’s because we invested in an adaptive guide bushing for the L32X that enables us to machine any material, regardless of whether it has been precision ground.
