Why Our Precision Machine Shop Prefers Machine Deburring over Hand Deburring

Machine Deburring

At Island Machine, we prefer machine deburring (using machine tools to grind off burrs) over hand deburring (using hand tools to scrape or buff out burrs). Machine deburring offers better consistency, efficiency, and quality, helping us provide an outstanding customer experience.

Machine Deburring at Island Machine

Here are some of the reasons our precision machine shop chooses to machine deburr parts:

Expertise

Using mechanical equipment for this process requires a high level of machining and tooling knowledge—knowledge that our team possesses.

Efficiency

Machine deburring is much faster than hand deburring. And while our machines remove burrs, our machinists are freed up to perform other tasks they can only complete by hand.

Consistency

Using machines to remove burrs produces the same outcome for every part, ensuring the highest level of consistency.

Quality

Machine deburring yields high-quality results for parts with materials ranging from aluminum, nickel, and steel to acetal and Delrin.

When Is Hand Deburring Necessary?

In some cases, we will deburr parts by hand after they have spent time in our machine. Here are some examples of when hand deburring may be necessary:

Intricate features

A part with intricate features has more crevices than a part with a simpler design. These openings present opportunities for burrs to form in places that are hard for a machine to reach.

Plastic parts

Some plastic parts may require quick touch-ups that we can perform manually without having the part spend extra time in the machine.

Hard metals

Parts made from hard metals, such as stainless steel, may require additional hand deburring following machine deburring to ensure that all burrs are adequately removed.

We Take Pride in the Quality of Our Work

At Island Machine, we take great pride in the quality of our work. We want to provide our customers with parts that are not only precise but also beautiful. While deburring is a requirement for most aerospace machining projects, we would take the time to deburr our customers’ parts even if they didn’t ask for it.

It’s all part of our commitment to excellent, customer-centric service.Contact us for our CNC machining services today!
